The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa has commissioned two state of the art high definition studios at ZBC's Pockets Hill studios in Harare, a development she said marks the new start to the digital revolution on television and the entire broadcasting industry.

Speaking in Harare this morning, Mutsvangwa said the digitalisation programme will continue and focus on the remaining transmitters, acquisition of set-top boxes that are need to receive the digital signal.

"I am sure it is common cause that the scarcity of funds has seen the digitalisation programme lagging behind. However,  I am happy to say that we have two high definition digital studios which are ready for use. With the high tech digital equipment installed, I am told the studios have the capacity to produce the same level of programme quality that we see on other regional and international channels," she said.

The Minister also emphasised the need for immediate utilisation of the new studios for ZBC to offer better service to Zimbabweans.

"Never again do we want to see programming done from makeshift studios which also make them makeshift programmes. Zimbabweans at home and abroad deserve better," she added.

Earlier on, Minister Mutsvangwa, her deputy Energy Mutodi and the Permanent Secretary Mr Ndabaningi Nick Mangwana toured facilities at the national broadcaster to familiarise themselves with the institution.

They had the chance to have an appreciation of the functions of the outside broadcast unit, Power FM and Classic 263 radio studios, the newsroom and all the new studios and equipment.

It is the view of the new government that through the digitalisation programme, every citizen will be empowered through access to information.
