He has been the group finance director.
"(He) served with diligence and dedication," Econet said in a statement.
Chimanikire is a chartered accountant and past president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe, with over 20 years of work experience.
He joined Econet in 2009 from Deloitte where he had been a partner.
Econet also appointed Kezito Makuni the new group chief operating officer. Makuni, who has 29 years of telecommunications field experience, joined Econet in 1998 but briefly left in 2007. He rejoined Econet two years later as project director.
He was promoted to chief technology officer, a position he held until his promotion to chief operating officer.
