MOST Zimbabweans now prefer to access their news through online publications as compared to hard copies of newspapers or magazines, the latest Geo Poll Zimbabwe Media reveals.

The media survey, which was carried out by Muthengo Development Services and supported by Internews sought to establish media consumption and frequency in Zimbabwe.

The survey, which was carried out in November last year covered all the 10 provinces in the country.

However, according to the results of the survey, presented in Bulawayo Thursday, most respondents now prefer using online sites compared to hard copies for both newspaper and magazines to access news and other media communication.

The Geo Poll survey also noted that the use of mobile and traditional radios, was the most preferred platform of listenership with up to 74% of the respondents listening to the radio.

"From the 69% of the respondents who indicated that they accessed internet in the last 30 days, mobile phone was the most used device at 72% followed by personal computer at 15%," reads the survey report.

The report was presented by the Zimbabwe Media Development (ZMD) projects monitoring and evaluation officer, Raphael Mudemba. He said the national broadcaster, the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Cooperation (ZBC) dominated on television viewership.

Zimbabwe only has one television broadcasting station, ZBC-TV.

"ZBC-TV staunchly dominated viewership in November 2019 reaching 61% of the respondents thus being ranked the first. It is trailed by SABC1 and ETV at positions three and four respectively.

"Radio listenership in Zimbabwe is mostly concentrated on Radio Zimbabwe which led with 35% followed by Star FM Power FM with 26% and 25% respectively," the survey noted.

The report further stated that the US-based Studio 7 had 3% listenership while Zim FM Stereo stood at 12%.
