HARARE residents and ratepayers have called on the Harare City Council to fix its billing system as they claim it gives people distorted bills, most of which are four months behind.

Harare Residents Trust executive director Precious Shumba said in spite of Harare introducing a new billing system, nothing has changed.

"Council's billing system is shambolic and gives inaccurate bills to ratepayers and, therefore, the figures shared by the city cannot be trusted. The figures are unreliable, hence council seriously needs to revisit its billing system to address this confidence and trust issue," Shumba said.

He argued that the new revenue and billing system was not a consolidated platform, but a fragmented system.

"We maintain that the situation at Town House is urgent and requires government's intervention,"  said Shumba.
