STATE-OWNED mobile network operator NetOne yesterday donated surgical equipment to the University of Zimbabwe department of dentistry and oral health care at Parirenyatwa Hospital to facilitate facial reconstruction surgery for Taremeredzwa Mapungwana (29) whose face has been deformed by a rare tumour.

Mutare-born Mapungwana, who works for NetOne, has unsuccessfully undergone 16 surgeries to remove the tumour, which has left her face badly deformed.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, NetOne public relations executive Eldrette Shereni said the donation was in keeping with the State-owned mobile network operator's philanthropic initiatives.

"To this end, we set aside a total budget of US$57 000 to fund her facial reconstruction surgery and have used part of those funds in procuring the requisite equipment to facilitate the two surgeries she requires," said Shereni.

Head of the UZ department of dentistry and oral health, Fiona Makoni, thanked the NetOne team for the donation.
