Speaking during the World Post day commemorations held at Rutenga in Masvingo province on Friday, Muswere said the post has survived throughout the years and it will continue providing communication solutions.
"The Post Office is moving away from offering traditional mail business only, which was predominantly letters, and focus more on e-commerce, agency and financial services to enhance financial inclusion, through the provision of e–solutions, which are cost-sensitive and widely accessible,"
"This embracing of ICTs by the Post can help in delivering progress towards every single one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ICTs contribute to SDGs in promoting inclusive, sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation," he said.
Running the theme, ‘Delivering development is delivering progress' the celebrations are to highlight the importance of the postal service.
At the same event, the Minister officially opened a special mobile Containerised Village Information Centre (CVIC) in Rutenga. This is the 24th containerized CIC to be commissioned but a special one as it has full office wings and training centre with a capacity of 20 users at the same time.
So far, 24 CVICs have been deployed countrywide and Masvingo has benefited by having four sites which are situated at Bikita Post Office, Maranda Growth Point, Rutenga Business Centre and Buffalo Range.
The minister has therefore implored all residents in Rutenga to use the training room, gaming room and the internet café to its fullest as it is their gateway to sustainable community development and personal advancement.
