Govt releases $20m for innovation hubs

THE government has so far released $20 million towards operationalising innovation hubs which are being constructed across the country, Higher and Tertiary Education minister Amon Murwira has said.

Speaking at the commissioning of the National University of Science and Technology (Nust)'s industrial hub, Murwira said an additional $3 million has also been released towards funding the innovations of 22 University of Zimbabwe (UZ) graduates.

The innovation hubs are being constructed at the country's six institutions -  UZ, Nust, Midlands State University (MSU), Harare Institute of Technology (HIT), Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) and Zimbabwe National Defence University.

Speaking at the same event, President Emmerson Mnangagwa emphasised the need to scientifically transform the education sector. He said the government had the responsibility to facilitate and assist students develop and apply their talents.
