Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Joel Biggie Matiza told parliamentarians today that his ministry is in the process of introducing digital reforms that will be implemented towards attainment of drivers' licences as part of efforts to scale down corruption in the sector.
"We are currently working towards introducing a computerised system starting from the attainment of a provisional licence up to the driver's licence. This way it will be easy to weed out illegal drivers on our roads and at the same time fight corruption in the process," he said.
The proposed digital reforms are expected to make a huge difference in the transport sector amid increasing reports of corruption and bribing cases as learners were being grossly charged by transport officials to earn driving licences.
In other cases of interest raised in the sitting, Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Sekai Nzenza has assured the nation that distribution of government's agriculture inputs and foodstuffs would be done transparently regardless of political affiliation.
"My ministry has pledged to work with every Zimbabwean in as far as distribution of social services are concerned particularly the elderly contrary to popular reports that we favour a certain party and alienate others," she said.
This has always been government's position as the Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement Retired Air Chief Marshal Perrance Shiri is on record on most of his tours reiterating that government distributes inputs and foodstuffs to all without considering their social or political standings.
Meanwhile, parliamentarians have been urged to take the August House sittings seriously and be objective in their legislative conduct.
