Zimbabwe high-tech delegation in India

INFORMATION Communication Technology (ICT) ministry has facilitated attendance of a high-tech India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2019 to tap into the Asian giant's technological advances and lure investors in the sector from the event.

With technology giants like Nokia, Huawei, Samsung and Ericsson expected to share their advances with different partners who include vehicle manufacturers, the delegation is set to get insight into cutting-edge innovations.

ICT deputy minister Jenfan Muswere is leading a Zimbabwean delegation that comprises State-enterprises under his ministry.

Muswere said they will also tour India's technological hubs and learn from its successful rural connectivity programmes.

"At the end of the congress, we are going to tour India's innovative hubs, core centres, ICT plants and equipment and the India rural connectivity programmes and rural urban development," the deputy minister told the Daily News from India.

Muswere said the visit was in line with the president's vision to have Zimbabwe as an upper middle-income country by 2030.  

He said they expected to excite interest from the delegates as they hoped to forge business deals during the tour.

"We hope to attract attention from those interested in digital infrastructure, IOT, software development, base stations, optic fibre, e-government, 5G deployment and cyber security.

"We're also interested in smart initiatives and in particular smart agriculture," Muswere said.

5G technology which the southern African country is interested in is being showcased by telecom gear makers like Nokia, Samsung, Ericsson and Huawei.

Zimbabwe is expected to eat its heart out as Indian telecoms operators are showcasing future technologies and what they can do in collaboration with partners like Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia and Samsung.

The Indian car maker Kia Motors is expected to showcase new technology that will allow its new Kia Seltos to function with advanced connected car functionality.
