Econet subscribers have criticised the mobile firm for unsolicited messages advertising its Sasai App.

Sasai is a chat and payments application regarded as a challenge to the dominance of WhatsApp in Africa. The company said its investigating the issue.

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe said it has taken note of the numerous complaints and views from consumers about the continuous receipt of the Sasai SMS. The regulator said its engaging the service provider and will communicate further developments.

The Herald commented that it has always been assumed as part of terms and conditions (T&Cs) that mobile phone service providers send messages promoting their products and services, and there had been no complaints, at least not in a deluge.
