Government has cleared the air on the purported missing Air Zimbabwe MA 60 aircraft, saying the planes are there on the ground but merely missing in the company's asset records.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Permanent Secretary, Engineer Amos Marawa rubbished recent media reports alleging Air Zimbabwe's MA 60 aircraft was missing.

Engineer Marawa said the aircraft was handed over to the parastatal by the government but was unfortunately not appearing in the Air Zimbabwe assets inventory, resulting in the Auditor General noting the anomaly which sections of the media took to imply that the planes were actually unaccounted for.

"An aircraft is too big a machine to be stolen and not be detected. It's not something one can put in a pocket and go away with it. What happened is when an audit of assets was carried out, what was on the ground and in the books could not match. In the case of the MA 60 aircrafts, they were handed over to Air Zimbabwe by government but the parastatal did not have them in their asset records," he said.

Recent media reports had suggested the aircrafts were stolen.
