FORMER president Robert Mugabe has sent the Internet into a frenzy following the circulation of his images in black and white sports attire by Adidas. This is actually the first time for many to see him in a tracksuit and sneakers as many remember him in formal wear.

The Internet has been abuzz with people proffering several explanations and theories with some saying he has always been a Highlanders supporter. The Bulawayo football giants use black and white as their official colours.

Some people had questioned the authenticity of the pictures after an image of the former president seated alone first emerged before another picture being flanked by his wife Grace and son Robert Junior — who were all wearing black — emerged.

On Instagram, his son Bellarmine seemed to confirm the pictures after someone asked him if he was the one behind dressing the nonagenarian. Commenting on Bellarmine's post, some took the opportunity to air out their displeasure at the current administration, saying they miss the old man as the country burns. Another comment on the post said the three stripes on the Adidas kit represented the three decades he was in power.

Even after his ouster in the  November 2017 soft coup, Mugabe has appeared less in public and in formal suits hence the interest the public has had in this Adidas tracksuit.
