NETONE is one of the sponsors of the inaugural Food and Culture Festival, which is aimed at displaying the country's diverse cultural lifestyle. The Food and Culture Festival is the brainchild of First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa. Harare Gardens will host the cultural activities that runs from May 23 to 25.

The event is primed to boost domestic tourism, which is battling to take off due to a number of factors that include alleged "high costs" and poor packaging of the destination.

Various traditional foods, languages, arts, music, crafts, fabric, traditional healers and social activities, among others, are expected to be on show during the cultural festivities.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) spokesperson Mr Godfrey Koti said it was their duty to educate locals on the country's cultural diversity, in addition to promoting the destination to attract international tourists.

"We are looking forward to people coming out to experience the Zimbabwean culture, the Zimbabwean food and all the rich culinary activity the country has to offer," said Mr Koti.

He said the idea of the festival is premised on the understanding and belief that people and culture are inseparable as it is the culture that makes up the fabric of any society, hence society and culture are intertwined.

The event will not only focus on festivities, but also cast the spotlight on other serious and pressing business such as lobbying for policy change to strengthen local culture preservation and food consumption.

A skills development and corporate social responsibility workshop will run concurrently with the cultural festival.

Mr Koti said the objective of the cultural festival is to impart life skills to the hundreds of people anticipated to visit the Harare Gardens.

The target audience ranges from the youth, general public, cultural custodians, scholars, and the diplomatic corps, local and global businesspeople.
