The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe is exploring ways of making tariffs more affordable by ensuring improved network efficiencies and lobbying government to reduce taxes on airtime following the response to increases in bundled data tariffs.

This was said by the Director General of POTRAZ Gift Machengete at the commissioning of the Dendera multi-operator radio access network site in Zhombe last Friday.

The solar site is a culmination of collaborative efforts and investments by the Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier services, POTRAZ and mobile cellular networks Econet, Telecel and NetOne.

Speaking at the event, Machengete said the launch of the shared tower personifies the emancipation of the people of Dendera who were surely left behind but are now included in the greater social and economic arena.

"Connectivity is the enabler of our time when it comes to social development and economic growth as ICTs have the capacity to transform lives by providing boundless opportunities to communities, businesses and individual citizens," he said.

The development in Dendera is in fulfillment of the board's mandate that of universal access and it has rolled out projects to ensure inclusivity of remote areas and vulnerable groups.
