The state has been put on notice in the case for Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) Director General Dr Gift Machengete after the state has repeatedly failed to respond to the application for exception to charges of violation of tender procedures.

Harare Regional Magistrate Mr Hosiah Mujayah has relaxed the bail reporting conditions for Machengete and temporarily released his passport until the 17th of April as the accused wants to attend government business in Switzerland.

The court will hand down its ruling on the 17th of April.

Machengete was initially charged for alleged criminal abuse of office last year around December, but the state later made an about-turn and amended the charges to violation of tender procedures.

The prosecutor for the case Thabani Mpofu has never appeared over the case, a situation which has led to the court rebuking such conduct for reflecting disrespect on the part of the state to the court.
