The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on ICT yesterday had a familiarization tour of NetOne to get an appreciation of how the company operates.

The Committee led by its Chairperson Chalton Hwende toured NetOne exchange offices as well as Kopje Plaza and Hebert Chitepo shops.

Speaking after the tour Hwende said "As a Committee, we are encouraged by the appointment of the board and the return of the suspended CEO. This should mark the end of the turbulence that the company experienced in the past and we hope that the company will continue on the growth trajectory. We are also pleased that they have managed to overturn an over $50 million loss into an $8 - $9 million profit."

The tour came at a time when Cabinet has approved the partial privatization of NetOne and its sister company TelOne. There is hope that the joint package privatization plan will secure better monetary value for the parastatals who have been confronted with a lot of mixed fortunes over the past years. Privatizing NetOne and TelOne is part of Zimbabwe's economic blueprint or Transitional Stabilization Programme as the government gears towards transforming the country into an upper middle-income economy.
