The President of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid has paid a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and the two leaders discussed potential areas of cooperation.

Emerging from the meeting, the Estonian leader told journalists that discussions centred on transfer of digital technologies.

"It was wonderful to hear from His Excellency on the economic developments in Zimbabwe, concrete plans. Then we are trying to see how Estonia, which is experiencing digital development could match what you are doing in your country. As you know Estonia is a country whose public services are fully digital and our companies and ambassador have been to your country looking for ways to cooperate and develop digital services in your country. So from this meeting we got a lot of information about each other's countries and we agreed that we continue to cooperate," she said.

Estonia is well established in digital technologies and everything is done online.

Zimbabwe's Foreign Affairs Minister, Retired Lieutenant General Dr Sibusiso Moyo said President Mnangagwa briefed his counterpart on his economic vision for Zimbabwe and highlighted the country is starved of credit of lines.

"Her [Estonia President] desire was to find out Zimbabwe's desire and needs and in that regard she was given a very detailed background of Zimbabwe's economy for many years up to now, that we are a country grappling with its economic emancipation without lines of credit and as a result, she made a commitment because they are a specialist in digital services," the Minister said.

President Mnangagwa has a vision of making Zimbabwe an upper middle income economy by 2030 and international engagements and re-engagements have been the nucleus of that thrust.

In Ethiopia, the President is inundated with requests to hold bilateral talks in the wake of attractive investment policies.
