Google confirms the issue has been fixed now and people should be able to access the email platform as usual.
Original Story
If you use Gmail as your main email work platform then we’ve got some bad news. You’ll probably have to take the rest of the day off as Gmail is down.
Google’s email platform has been having issues since around 11.15 am (GMT) this morning. In general, people are having problems trying to log-in, as well as receiving emails and accessing the website.
According to the website DownDetector, people are reporting issues with the platform in Australia, Brazil, Norway, India and the UK.

Google: gmail is down showing a 404. Seen it on several accounts. @gmail

Mail seems to flow using pop/imap and logged in browser sessions works. When logging in the 404 pops up. Reboot, clear cache, new browser, nothing works.
Even clearing your cache and cookies doesn’t seem to be having an effect, which means it must be a widespread issue.
This week is not a good week for internet platforms. Last night, social media platform Instagram crashed for users around the world, with those in North America the worst hit and some users in the UK affected.
The app’s support team confirmed Instagram was carrying out some server maintenance, which caused the issues. It was resolved before the morning.
Google is aware that Gmail is down, according to the company’s app status dashboard. This should mean that the company is working to fix the issue.
According to the dashboard, no other Google products are affected at the moment. That means Google Drive, Google Calendar, and Google Hangouts are all working as expected.
