INFORMATION communication technology is a key economic enabler that will play an important part in achieving Government's Vision 2030, an senior Government official has said.

Speaking at a Tel One centre of learning graduation ceremony last week, Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technology and Courier Services, Jenfan Muswere said internet digitalisation was the reality of a new economy.

"The ICT industry is now one of the fastest growing industries and this gives a better chance for ICT practitioners to be employed. There is an opportunity to be creative and innovative. We have witnessed young people who have created billion dollar industries and you have been equipped for this,” he said.

"Your efforts are in line with Government drive of making ICT a backbone of economy as data is now the most traded item in the world, which now surpasses commodities and financial assets," he said.

A total of 225 graduands were conferred with diplomas in telecommunications. Tel One centre for learning also offers a telecoms degree in partnership with National University of Science and Technology.

"I have learnt that the graduands are now able to design, install and maintain ICT infrastructure and develop applications and software solution that will change this world.

"This will change our prospects as a country. We need to think big and make millions to the world and explore innovation," he said.
