Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President Philip Chiyangwa has been stalling to appear before the ICT Portfolio Committee to account for a loan of $1 million that was handed over to ZIFA by Potraz.

Speaking at an ICT Portfolio sitting, ICT Chairperson Honorable Charlton Hwende said that he has communicated with Mr Chiyangwa to appear before the committee to no avail.

"Mr Chiyangwa said that he can not come today because the ICT Committee can not summon ZIFA as they are an NGO that reports only to the international football motherboard  which is FIFA," he said.

Hon Hwende elaborated further on the various excuses that he was given by Mr Chiyangwa.

"I explained the standing orders and the power that the constitution gives the Committee and Chiyangwa said he was on leave therefore he could not attend the hearing, I requested a representative from ZIFA and Mr Chiyangwa asked if he could talk to his lawyer's first."

It is alleged that the lawyer mentioned that it is not in the Committee interest to find out how and what was spent on the money.

The lawyer is said to have argued that if they are to appear before the committee ,it will only be a discussion on how the ICT sector can assist in sourcing funds for ZIFA.

Chiyangwa popularly known as Captain Fiasco then called Hon Hwende and informed him that they have not received any letter which was summoning them and he asked for proof of service from the Clerk of Parliament.

The Portfolio Committee has a mandate to monitor all government policies and programmes to ensure efficient use and allocation of national resources, and it sorely this reason why ZIFA has been entangled in this chaos as it owes the Regulator.
