In a statement issued recently, the roads administrator encouraged unregistered vehicle owners to take advantage of the new promotion or risk deregistration.
"ZINARA would like to advise the motoring public that in view of the deregistration exercise to be conducted by the Central Vehicle Registry of vehicles not licensed or exempted for a period of two or more years as at 31st July 2018, ZINARA will be offering a 50 percent discount on penalties only on outstanding vehicle licensing fees up to 31st December 2018," reads the statement.
The motoring public has been advised to visit any of the administration's offices countrywide to pay the outstanding fees.
Last year, ZINARA also extended a 100 percent waiver on vehicle licence fees penalties to 30 September 2017.
According to CVR, Zimbabwe's vehicle population stands around 1.3 million.
ZINARA reports that almost 170 000 vehicles on the country's roads are not registered while some vehicle owners are said to have just took vehicle licences once and never came back to register again.
Government has since instructed CVR to deregister all vehicles whose licence fees have not been paid up for a period of two years.
Once a vehicle has been deregistered, it will require a re-registration fee of $160 for motor vehicles and $140 for motor cycles.
