POTRAZ commended for bridging digital gap

Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has been commended for bridging the digital divide between urban and rural communities by spearheading the opening up of information centre in rural areas.

This was said by the Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Honourable Jerifan Muswere when he commissioned an information centre at Kotwa Growth Point in Mudzi.

"The establishment of community information centres is the only way rural populations can be assisted to become economic players in the country," said the deputy minister.

Honourable Muswere said the information centre will go a long way in bringing the people in Mudzi in line with other developing communities sentiments also echoed by Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Apolonia Munzverengwi.

POTRAZ managing director Gift Manyengete revealed that they have plans to turn all underutilised post offices into information centres.

"We are currently renovating all underutilised sections of post offices for the benefit of communities," he said.

The commissioning coincided with the World Post Day Commemorations.

The World Post Day was commemorated under the theme, "The Post: Delivering Good to the World".
