A new research report from the 2018 Business Software Alliance (BSA) recently highlighted that Zimbabwe is now number 2 (down from Number 1) in the rankings of countries in the Middle East and Africa that have the highest rates of unlicensed software installations.

The report, by BSA The Software Alliance (formerly known as the Business Software Alliance) was presented by engineer Robert Shoniwa at the recently held Zim-India ICT conference

In his presentation Engineer Shonhiwa decried the levels of software piracy in the country, correlating data on the known piracy rates and malware infection rates.

He also explained the rationale behind the above claims, adding that cybercrime rate is equally on the rise due to the increased adoption of electronic transactions in the country.

In this digital era, Africa has become one the largest digital markets in the world, with high mobile and internet penetration rates creating both tremendous business opportunities and increased cyber security threats.

It seems not everyone is paying attention to online security.

Ripped software remains popular in Zimbabwe earning it a top spot in the world as a consumer of unlicensed software, exposing internet users to high malware and overseas hackers.
