State-Owned Telecommunications Operator, NetOne has registered a 5.2% increase in the total number of active mobile subscriptions from 3,097,077 to 3,256,592 subscriptions as at 31 December 2018.

The growth can, however, be attributed to various factors.

Suffice to say, NetOne has been largely fairing well, particularly their mobile money platform, OneMoney subscriptions that rose from 181 990 to 241 566 recording a 32.7% growth, its competitors Telecash and Ecocash recording 1% and 0.7% respectively.

Perhaps NetOne deserves accolades for OneMoney success. No doubt, their marketing strategy has been robust and on point, as they have tried to promote their mobile money platform, given the failure of its predecessor OneWallet.

The availability of NetOne's fair data products (One Fusion) has also contributed to positive growth. By September 2018, NetOne's Revenue amounted to $10 million, bearing in mind that this is the same operator that suffered a $57 million loss in 2017, according to then-Acting CEO Nkosilathi Ncube this was 6% above what the operator had projected.

However, although NetOne registered a 32.7% percent growth in mobile money subscription, it still has a paltry 241 566 active mobile money subscribers, which makes it a mammoth task to catch up or overtake Econet's 6,057,594.

On the other hand, Telecel continued to lose subscribers in the course of the year 2018, NetOne has continued to show significant growth from attaining 22.5%of the market share in the first quarter of last year to acquiring 25.2% in the fourth quarter.

It's only fair to say that NetOne might just become a force to be reckoned with, if they continue with this steady growth because even though they do not grow in gigantic numbers but they remain constant in their growth. From having 13 000 active mobile money subscribers by end of 2017 to registering 241 566. I guess there is hope after all for the converged network operator.
