YA FM has set up two transmitters in Gweru and Mberengwa to increase its coverage and attract a larger audience.

YA FM is an interactive radio station licensed in March 2015 and is located in the mining town of Zvishavane.

The station is now reaching areas such as Gokwe North and Gokwe South, Mberengwa, Gwanda, Gweru, Chegutu, Masvingo and Kwekwe. With the new transmitters, YA FM chairman Mr Munyaradzi Hwengwere said they were also reaching Shurugwi, Gwanda, Chiredzi and Chegutu.

He said the area of coverage was predominantly mining communities, thus positioning the station as the voice for the miners.

"We are starting with two transmitters, one we are putting at Mberengwa Peak to cover the whole of Mberengwa up to Gwanda and another one at Guinea Fowl to cover Gweru, Gokwe and Kwekwe and other areas," said Mr Hwengwere.

He said their commitment was to cover the Great Dyke area.

"Our commitment from the beginning was to cover the Great Dyke area because we are the voice of the miners, but that was not going to be possible without being enabled by Government and given the necessary authorisations and frequencies, so we got the frequencies and we also got the support from RBZ to procure transmitters which we have done," he said.

"Our focus is in the mining area, the vision by the Ministry of Mines is to realise a mining industry that reaches $12 billion by 2023. At present, of the $5,6 billion that came to Zimbabwe in 2018, a significant part, almost $2,5 billion came from the Great Dyke.

"So, when we are talking about $12 billion we are talking about a multiplication from current $2,5 billion to $10 billion in three years. So, the Great Dyke is the biggest economic region in Zimbabwe, that's why we are calling it the Great Dyke marketing initiative."

Mr Hwengwere said the Great Dyke and the Midlands province in particular was a potential economic enabler and, therefore, the need for the radio station to increase its presence and coverage.
