Zimbabwe hosts global mobile conference

Zimbabwe is hosting top global tech executives here who are discussing the newest thing in mobile communication technology, 5G, hoping the super-fast mobile phones and technologies will help Africa catch up in smart technology, crucial for economic growth and jobs.

Chaesub Lee, who was re-elected for a second term to be director of the United Nations agency International Telecommunications Union (ITU) at the end of last year, said the global ITU conference which is only being hosted for the second time in Africa in Zimbabwe, would focus on narrowing the "digital divide" between rich and poor countries, networks for the future, including the putative 5G mobile network that promises better connections to cope with ever-increasing number of mobile Internet users.
