Addressing delegates today, at the launch of the Gatshegatshe Moran Site in Kariba, Director General Dr Gift Machengete hailed Mashonaland West Province for having a favourable response to ICTs and registering in their numbers.
"At this point from last year in October we have managed to train 10 398 people countrywide, with 1 832 from Mashonaland West,"
He added, "the 1 832 were trained in Chinhoyi and Murombedzi where there are fully-fledged Information Centres with ICT equipment,".
Dr Machengete hailed communities in the province for having the highest intake of people who have been trained in the use of ICTs despite the fact that Mashonaland West has only two training centres.
CICs are only available at Post offices and Potraz has put Containerized Village Information Centres. Potraz has put up 24 of these centres as a pilot project that is set to be rolled out throughout the country.
"Mashonaland West has been allocated three of these Containerized Information Centres, in Raffingora, Chirundu and another in Selous and our aim is to roll out the project to marginalized areas as soon as possible to allow connectivity," he said.
The Containerized Village Information Centers are furnished with state of the art air conditioners and computers ready for use.
