Potraz today launched the nation's 20th Shared base station and the 5th Multi Operator Radio Access Network (Moran) in Kariba Nyaminyami for Gatshegatshe community members.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of State for Mashonaland West Mary Mliswa applauded the ICT minister Hon Kazembe Kazembe and his team for bringing victory to the people of Kariba by empowering the community with network coverage which will connect them to the rest of the world after years of isolation.

"This enabling structure will make a rapid impact that is going to be felt by our people here and beyond. Besides voice and messaging services, network coverage brings along opportunities for financial, economic, social and political inclusion ."

The area which lies along Nyaminyami has not known any connectivity, disconnecting 2000 members of the community, who survive on finishing business.

ICT minister Kazembe Kazembe said that it is within government's interest to connect communities while they install such base stations in these areas where commercially, mobile networks would not find viable.

Potraz Director General Dr Gift Machengete said they are launching the 5th Moran base station under trial, a technology that allows all mobile networks to transmit using singular infrastructure.

"Our target is to complete all national grey areas, And the next launch will be in Donsa under Gokwe"

The MORAN site brings together internet providers as well as Zimbabwe's three network giants , Econet, NetOne and Telecel which will enable its rural population to conform to the mobile money era in accessing finances through Ecocash, Telecash and OneMoney.

However, immediate attention is still required in the province for other areas such as Mola, Siyakubva, Hurungwe and Guruve who still lack network coverage. Parts of Makondi, 40 km out of Chinhoyi, Cheruru in Sanyati District and Rafingora in Zvimba district also need help in being connected to network coverage.
