Evelyn Ruvanda and Godsends Siwela from the departments of media and society studies and metallurgical engineering, respectively, have engaged Orein Francis Jafter, a student from Yonsei University, South Korea, in the GOEL Computer Educational Initiative.
According to MSU, the initiative involves using a tri-functional system (computer education, printing and computer gaming) and "is designed to nurture critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as enhance computer literacy among the youths of Zvishavane."
Jafter, who is the founder and managing partner of the project, said computer literacy was critical for today's youths in their access to research, career and other learning opportunities.
Siwela said the initiative was going to provide a computer literacy-oriented service facility which will equip youths with diversified computing skills.
"We seek to also grow the initiative into an educational facility, utilising interactive tabs and applications for student-aided learning and also offer lecture series in the design programme for programming, design, coding and computer operations and packages," he said.
MSU Zvishavane campus director Advice Viriri said the project was unique and in line with the university's "internationalisation goals".
Viriri said the partnership would not only place MSU on the global map, but uplift communities and inspire students and youths at national level.
Over the years, MSU students from various departments and faculties have come up with community projects, ranging from agriculture, information and communication technologies that have economically benefitted the local people.
