Liquid Telecom Zimbabwe (Liquid) says it has connected 39 000 houses in the country with fibre since launching the programme five years ago.

Demand for telecommunications services has been growing in Zimbabwe, where data-based products have evolved into the biggest form of communication ahead of voice.

"The company was the first to launch fibre to the home (FTTH) in 2013 and has connected more than 39 000 homes to date," the company said yesterday while chronicling achievements of managing director and group executive southern Africa, Wellington Makamure.

Makamure was recently recognised with the National Leadership Award manager of the year for 2017 by the Zimbabwe Institute of Management.

"The company has also become the first Internet Access Provider (IAP) in Zimbabwe to launch Long Term Evolution (LTE), a wireless technology that offers high Internet speeds of up to 600Mbps per base station and exceptional user experience. Last year, the company partnered with Microsoft to offer cloud services to local enterprises. This partnership couldn't have come at a better time as it has enabled enterprises to buy Microsoft licences using local currency," said Liquid.

Liquid, with a strong African footprint, is one of the leading companies in Zimbabwe's telecoms industry.

According to the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority on Zimbabwe (Potraz), Liquid commanded almost 65 percent of the Internet access provider (IAP) revenue during the first quarter of this year.

This was a 10,6 percent rise from the fourth quarter of 2017, according to Liquid's statement.
