NetOne launched the Mnene Base Station yesterday in Mberengwa North in a bid to bridge the digital divide.

Speaking during the commission of the base station ICT Permanent Secretary Engineer Sam Kundishora said connectivity will bridge the digital gap between the rural and urban folk.

"It is no secret that improved access to ICTs, will not only promote growth and development of the constituencies but will also have spillover benefits on the overall growth and development of Zimbabwe," he said.

"NetOne prides itself for having the best service provision and improving accessibility in previously marginalised areas, such as Mnene. The network of choice, NetOne is providing improved access to ICTs, promoting job creation by enhancing distribution and access channels," he added.

Engineer Kundishora, said the increased network provision is in line with government policies and strategies to enhance the provision of ICT, telecommunications and courier services, ensuring equitable access by all citizens including disadvantaged groups and rural communities.

NetOne CEO Lazarus Muchenje said the base station will ensure improved connectivity, just like other areas in the country that are already connected.

"We promise that our data network is going to be as good as anywhere in the country," he said.
